Welcome to the Recap - a short weekly update blog from Architecture and Design Scotland. This is based on our internal blog that is shared with staff and board members on Fridays. This blog is for the week ending 30 August. Lots of staff returned from their summer holidays this week, so while they grapple with their post-holiday inboxes we'll keep the blog short and sweet!

The Andy MacMillan Memorial Lecture 2024

It was confirmed this week that the Andy MacMillan Lecture 2024 will take place on 9 October at Civic House, Glasgow.

This year we will be joined by Glasgow City Councillor Holly Bruce in conversation with Collective Architecture's Jude Barber.

After the Lecture, we will be announcing the winners of the 2024 A&DS and RIAS Scottish Student Awards for Architecture, as well as the winner of the RIAS Scottish Design Tutor Award.

The Secretary of State for Scotland visits EFI

The Secretary of State for Scotland, Ian Murray MP, toured the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) on Friday as part of his first official visit to the University of Edinburgh.

Mr Murray was shown around the building by the University’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Peter Mathieson and Interim Director EFI Professor Kev Dhaliwal.

As part of the tour, Mr Murray visited the Scottish Prevention Hub to hear about the work of the team members of the hub including Architecture & Design Scotland and to learn how the different organisations are collaborating and using data to drive solutions.
