The Recap: A weekly update from Architecture and Design Scotland
Welcome to the Recap - a short weekly update blog from Architecture and Design Scotland. This is based on our internal blog that is shared with staff and board members on Fridays.
This blog is for the week ending 2 August. As with last week, there are many people still on annual leave so the blog is short and sweet! Around the building at Edinburgh Futures Institute the Edinburgh International Book Festival is taking shape, and along Middle Meadow Walk there are the joys of leaflets and buskers. It’s definitely festival season in Edinburgh!
Collaboration in EFI
During the week Jim MacDonald, our chief executive, had a series of chats with colleagues from other organisations based in EFI, this yet again served to underline the value of being based somewhere that puts us in touch with new partners and collaborative opportunities.
Regenerative Futures
On Thursday 1st August, Danny McKendry Principal Landscape Architect, took part in the launch workshop of Regenerative Futures’ Industry Transition Accelerator, hosted by Built Environment - Smarter Transformation - BE-ST at Hamilton International Technology Park.
From the facilitator's briefing “Regenerative Future’s Industry Transition Accelerator is a transformative initiative designed to reshape the construction industry. It's based on a deep understanding of systems change principles and processes, tailored to meet the unique challenges and opportunities within the industry.
[…] The Industry Transition Accelerator presents a path forward for the construction industry to embrace change comprehensively and collaboratively. It's not just a plan for industry transformation but a blueprint for a more sustainable, resilient, and future-ready construction sector.”
What next for place? Unlocking the power of place: design, data & collaboration
On Tuesday, as part of our July newsletter, we announced details of our upcoming Place Forum 5 – which is a collaborative event created with
Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Place Programme, University of Glasgow, and Academy of Urbanism and supported by LUC.
Even before announcing the speakers and the programme, we were delighted to see that all the tickets had already been snapped up. While we understand that this might be disappointing, we have activated a waitlist and we will of course share outputs from the event itself.
Coming up: we will continue to release content from, as well as capture more contributions for the Value of Design campaign as well as recording our first podcast…
