Welcome to the Recap - a short weekly update blog from Architecture and Design Scotland. This is based on our internal blog that is shared with staff and board members on Fridays. This blog is for the week commencing 8 July.

New videos added to the Value of Design showcase

Last week we added three new videos to our Value of Design Vimeo showcase. These feature four of our board members, Daisy Narayanan, Kristy Macari and Dr Lynn Wilson and Chair, Ann Allen.

Don’t forget to help us share our videos on social! Your help is essential to spreading the word about our campaign.

Design: The key to creating healthier, happier places

On Friday, we published a blog on our website by Jim MacDonald, who shares his view about the role of design.

"Yes, design is about how a building looks, but it is also about so much more than that. Design determines how a building makes you feel, how it works, how sustainable it is. Design is also a brilliant way of getting people involved in a project and perhaps this is its greatest strength: engaging and empowering users to shape the building they need."

Chair of Architecture and Design Scotland, Ann Allen reappointed as a Member of the Board of Crown Estate Scotland

Last week, the Scottish Government announced the reappointment of Ann Allen, our Chair as a Member of the Board of Crown Estate Scotland, alongside Michael Foxley and Robert Mackenzie.

Crown Estate Scotland is all about using Scotland's land, resources and people to create lasting benefits for the country. This includes things like buildings, farmland, and the seashore. They are a big player in helping Scotland reach Net Zero emissions.

They also work on making sure development is sustainable, which means finding ways to improve Scotland without harming the environment for future generations.
