The projects described below are a sample of current and completed enabling work:

Glasgow and the Clyde Valley Structure Plan
A+DS’s enabling team assisted the Glasgow and the Clyde Valley Structure Plan Team facilitate a workshop exploring design issues for the member local authorities. In the context of the finalisation of the Structure Plan update, the event explored important issues of how local authorities could prepare themselves for the challenge of delivering good quality built environments.

Aberdeen Regional Sports Facility
This project worked with the client team for the Aberdeen Regional Sports Facility. Alistair Scott provided assistance with the evaluation of six shortlisted design teams, which included providing advice during the design submission interview process.

West Lothian Schools
Dick Cannon has been working with the West Lothian Council to prepare a brief that will inform the delivery of a new co-located school at Winchburgh.  This school will be delivered primarily through planning gain and A+DS’s role is to provide advice and support to the client during the initial phase of work, concentrating on design quality in schools, procurement options and brief preparation.  

Western Isles Schools
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council) is undertaking their PPP Schools Programme using an unusual hybrid model for engaging the private sector.  The work includes a major programme of new builds and extensions to their existing schools. Kevin Cooper has been providing advice and support to the client team during the establishment of the special purpose vehicle, concentrating on design quality in schools, procurement options and brief preparation.  

Gartcosh Business Park
Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire wished to explore options for securing design quality and high sustainability standards for the Gartcosh Business Park. Chris Rankin has been providing assistance with auditing their masterplan and providing advice on the options available for securing design quality and a high standard of sustainability through more detailed forms of design guidance and codes.

Neilston Community Project
Enabled by Karen Esslemount, this project is a joint initiative between East Renfrewshire Council and the Neilston Village Regeneration Group. The project seeks to establish a strategic context and direction for the future development of the village, drawing on previous visioning work and the work of the current local plan preparation for East Renfrewshire.

Glasgow Housing Association
The Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) is commissioning the first phase of their new build housing programme. Four sites have been selected in the north of Glasgow to deliver approximately 240 houses. This is an extremely important project for the GHA as it is its first new build programme. This process will inform subsequent design exercises so enabling assistance provided by Vernon Monaghan, assisted by Brian Moore, sought to establish a rigorous process and comprehensive material that can inform future projects.

Irvine Bay Urban Regeneration Company
The Irvine Bay Urban Regeneration Company is in its early stages of formation and has been established to take forward policy initiatives identified in the People and Place Regeneration Policy Statement. Vernon Monaghan has been appointed to work with the URC and their partners over the next two years to drive forward a design led approach, utilising a variety of tools and techniques to support the programme’s aspirations for strong physical regeneration.

Design Awareness Training for Local Authorities
A+DS’s enabling team has been working in close cooperation with the Local Government Improvement Service and the Scottish Executive to develop a framework to guide the development and delivery of design awareness training for local authorities. A+DS’s team will continue to provide support in selecting appropriate consultants to deliver various training modules, develop briefs to inform the development and delivery of various modules and provide ongoing assistance in the delivery of the programme and the monitoring and evaluation of the programme’s effectiveness.
